Mirage
For my final senior project at Messiah University, I had to create and prepare a coherent body of work that demonstrates my ability and best thinking in my design concentration. After 2 semesters of research I focused my project on lenticular printing which is specially prepared graphics that change when viewed from a different angle. Conceptually I was interested in duality and included a mirror beside my work to invite self reflection on the changing images.
Artist Statement: “As a designer, I intend to walk in the shoes of my clients through the lens of empathy. When creating visuals, I hope for a balanced depiction by integrating my stylistic decisions with my client’s design needs. The viewer’s perspective is my inspiration for putting together the final product. I intend to reimagine a design problem and provide a fresh depiction.
Mirage primarily focuses on the change that takes place when gaining a new perspective. Lenticular printing is a medium that helps me practice empathy visually, as I look to reconcile with how our eyes can be deceived. The lenticular prints aid in transforming the images when viewed from a different angle. Through the transitions of inversion and subtlety, I am looking to create a synthesis of images to portray duality. The inclusion of a mirror invites personal reflection on the changing images, to demonstrate that a singular perspective is not the entire picture.
I sincerely appreciate all family, faculty, and friends who aided my process of creating this exhibition piece. And thank you, dear viewer for spending time with my work.”
